Who We Are

Founded in 2009 by Peter Curtis, North East Sport Youth FC has long been a cornerstone of grassroots football in North East England, known for its inclusive ethos and opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. At its peak, the club fielded 30 teams, from U6s to two adult squads, competing in the Russell Foster League and Durham FA Leagues. However, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted our operations, leading to a pause and a reduction to 14 teams.
As of April 2025, we are in an exciting rebuild phase, revitalizing our club with a focus on welcoming new players and rebuilding our community. With the support of our dedicated 30 volunteers, we’re preparing to align with the FA Future Fit strategy, introducing age-appropriate formats like 3v3 for U7s and 5v5 for U9s by the 2026-27 season to enhance skill development and fun. Based at our Monkwearmouth Academy hub in Sunderland, we provide a supportive environment where players can grow, forge friendships, and rediscover the joy of football.
Our commitment to inclusivity remains unwavering, inviting individuals of all backgrounds to join our 14 teams or volunteer. With strong partnerships, including Monkwearmouth Academy, we’re poised to rebuild stronger, delivering memorable football experiences and making a lasting impact in Sunderland’s football community.
