16 Years Strong: From Economic Crash to Community Impact – Happy Birthday, North East Sport!

Can you believe it? North East Sport is 16 years old today 5th November Bonfire night! 🎉 Sixteen years strong, and what a journey it’s been.

Rewind to 2008/09. The world was in the midst of an economic crash, a time of uncertainty and worry for so many families. It was in that challenging climate that North East Sport (Company No. 7068042) was formed. Our mission was simple, but vital: to ignite opportunity and hope for young people in Sunderland, giving them a safe place to play, grow, and simply be kids, especially when options were scarce.

It’s been a real graft, let’s be honest. From those early days, navigating economic headwinds to the ongoing pressures of today, it hasn’t always been easy. But through every challenge, our commitment has never wavered. We believe in doing our absolute best, not just on the pitch, but for our community and our team. That’s why we’re proud to be a Living Wage provider, ensuring that those who dedicate their passion and hard work to North East Sport are valued and supported.

We’ve watched countless children grow up with us – from their first kick of a football to becoming confident young adults, some even returning as volunteers or starting their own careers. We’ve seen shy kids find their voice, and quiet players become leaders. We’ve celebrated massive wins, like recently securing vital funding from the Sir James Knott Trust, which will help us reach even more families during the tough school holidays.

None of this would be possible without the incredible heart of our community. A massive, heartfelt thank you to every single child, parent, dedicated coach, supportive partner, and every single person who has been a part of our story over these 16 years. Your belief in what we do fuels us every single day.

We’re still here, still passionate, and still 100% committed to giving everyone the opportunities they deserve.

Onwards and upwards! Here’s to the next 16 years of making a positive difference in Sunderland! ⚽️🙏
