February Half Term 2026 is fast approaching. For many parents in Sunderland, the priority is finding safe, engaging, and reliable childcare.
At North East Sport (NESport), we pride ourselves on offering one of the best Holiday Camps in Sunderland, based at Monkwearmouth Academy. But this year, we are celebrating something even more special than the activities we offer. We are celebrating the people delivering them.
We are thrilled to announce that our team of young volunteers has pledged an incredible 122 hours of support for this upcoming half-term week.
122 Hours of Giving Back
It is a statistic that speaks volumes about the young people in our city. While many teenagers will be spending their half-term sleeping in or gaming, our young volunteers will be on the pitch and in the sports hall, mentoring the next generation.
These young people are giving up their free time to ensure your children have a Happy, Healthy, and Hopeful experience. They are setting up drills, tying shoelaces, encouraging shy children, and creating the vibrant atmosphere that makes NESport unique.
We Don’t Import Solutions; We Raise Them”
Since our inception in 2009, North East Sport has evolved from a local club into a true community lifeline. Our name says ‘Sport’, but we use sport purely as the engagement tool to reach the families who need us most.
Our greatest strength is that we build our own leaders. We have a saying at the club: “We don’t import solutions; we raise them.”
This isn’t just a slogan; it is a proven pathway:
- The Camper: Young people attend our camps as children.
- The Volunteer: They grow up and return to volunteer (like the 122 hours we are seeing this week!).
- The Staff: They develop into qualified professionals.
In fact, all four of our current full-time staff started out as volunteers with us. That is real mentorship in action. When you book a place at our camp, your child is being looked after by role models who know exactly what it feels like to be in their shoes.
