As the festive period enveloped us with its usual cheer, our North East Sport Demons chose to keep the football flowing by entering a local tournament. With the league on a seasonal break, this was the perfect chance to maintain sharpness and team spirit. Leading the charge was our newly appointed captain, Finley, chosen for his consistent excellence in training sessions. This was his first chance to lead in a match scenario, and he did so with aplomb.
Group Game 1: vs Sunderland City Juniors Ball (SCJ Ball)
The tournament started against familiar faces, SCJ Ball. The match was a display of fine football, with both teams showing impressive passing and creating numerous chances. However, it was our Demons who took the lead through a spectacular goal by Noel. Positioned almost on the goal line, he managed to score from a tight angle after a corner kick, the ball ricocheting off the post into the net.
Group Game 2: vs Boldon Colts
Next, the Demons faced Boldon Colts, known for their speed and organization. The Demons struck first with a precise shot from Ben. But Boldon quickly responded, leveling the score. Despite having more opportunities, the Demons couldn’t break the deadlock again, ending the match on an even note.
Group Game 3: vs Cramlington Utd Tigers
The final group game was a testament to the Demons’ attacking prowess and resilience. Ben scored again, followed by Harry’s well-executed team goal. Cramlington pulled one back with a spectacular solo run by a notably diminutive player, but it was George who stole the show with a contender for goal of the season – a long-range lob from just past the halfway line.
Quarter Final: vs Ashbrooke Athletic
With high expectations, the Demons met Ashbrooke Athletic in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, this was where their journey ended. Whether it was a dip in concentration or energy, the team didn’t perform as they had in the group stages, leading to a disappointing defeat.
Reflections on the Tournament
Despite the abrupt end, this tournament was a significant step in the development of our Demons. Under Finley’s leadership, the team showed great promise, skill, and spirit. The matches provided invaluable experience, especially for the younger players, setting a strong foundation for the new year.
As we look forward to more football in 2025, let’s keep the momentum going, continue to develop, and aim for even better performances. Here’s to another year of growth and victories for the North East Sport Demons!
